Qualcomm recently unveiled the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, expanding beyond the spotlight on its much-anticipated 8 Gen 3 chip. Positioned as a midrange mobile System on Chip (SoC), this newcomer aims to deliver top-notch performance without breaking the bank.
Crafted through a meticulous 4nm process, the 7 Gen 3 shares commonalities with its high-end counterpart, boasting support for AI software features and the Snapdragon Elite gaming suite.
Performance
In terms of performance, the integrated Qualcomm Kryo CPU steals the show, capable of reaching speeds up to 2.63 GHz—an impressive 15% improvement over its predecessor. Quick Charge 5 support ensures a swift battery top-up, reaching 50% in just five minutes.
Gaming enthusiasts will appreciate the performance boost, courtesy of the Qualcomm Adreno GPU. With support for 120Hz QHD+ displays and features like Snapdragon Game Super Resolution, it intelligently enhances in-game visuals without compromising battery life.
Audio-Visual Enhancements
The audio-visual experience is not neglected, as the 7 Gen 3 supports Snapdragon Sound for lossless-quality audio and stereo-quality recording. Additionally, features like LE Audio with Auracast enhance public TV audio access, simplify sound sharing, and elevate hearing aid performance.
In the realm of imaging, the chip supports photo capture of up to 200MP, leveraging AI features like AI Remosaic for reduced grainy discolouration, AI noise reduction, and AI Video Retouch for crystal-clear footage. The inclusion of Qualcomm’s Spectra Triple ISP allows simultaneous capture from three cameras with seamless zooming and support for 4K HDR video recording and Google’s Ultra HDR photo format.
AI Features
The 7 Gen 3 doesn’t shy away from AI prowess, featuring the Qualcomm Sensing Hub for contextually aware functionality, the Qualcomm AI Engine for a 60% boost in AI performance per watt, the Hexagon NPU for improved AI network performance, and INT4 precision support for prolonged communication and productivity.
Qualcomm has revealed that partner OEMs, including HONOR and Vivo, will be the first to adopt the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, with official announcements expected later this month.
