Presently, swiping down in the chat list unveils hidden chats, but this forthcoming feature takes concealment a step further, rendering them entirely invisible until the secret code is input. Simultaneously, WhatsApp is diligently crafting a feature allowing users to assign usernames to channels.
Upon updating to WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.24.20, the option to set a secret code for hidden chats becomes accessible. To enact this, navigate to the roster of locked chats, tap the three-dot menu at the summit, proceed to Chat lock settings, toggle Hide locked chats, and input a memorable secret code. WhatsApp emphasizes the importance of selecting a memorable code, cautioning that resetting it will erase all locked chats.
Once locked chats are clandestine, they cease to appear in the Locked chats category accessed by swiping down on the home screen. Instead, the secret code must be entered in the search bar to unveil the concealed (and locked) chat inventory.
This concealment feature acts as a shield, thwarting unauthorized individuals from detecting locked chats on your device. Rather than a simple swipe down, they must input your secret code. If you decide to revert to the previous fingerprint-locking mechanism, follow the aforementioned steps after entering your secret code to toggle Hide locked chats, restoring visibility to the locked chats with a swipe down on the main chat list.
WABetaInfo, the feature tracker, has identified a new feature in development that allows users to assign a username for channels. This feature will enable subscribers to access the channel using the assigned username. However, since the feature is still in development, beta testers will need to wait for its official rollout on the beta channel at a later date.
